Putin declares “Easter truce” because Ukraine says “can’t be trusted”

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he ordered his forces to “stop all military activity” in Ukraine, as he declared the “Easter Record” until the end of Sunday.

He said that the 30-hour truce will last until 22:00 BST on Sunday (00:00 Moscow time), adding that Russian forces should be ready to answer “all possible violations.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Putin to try to “play with human lives” – but did not say if Ukraine agreed to stop in the fight.

“We assume that Ukraine will follow our example. At the same time, our troops should be willing to take away with a possible violation of truce and provocation by enemies, any aggressive action.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its troops would adhere to the truce provided that Ukraine was “respected by each other.”

It is not the first time that the break in the fight suddenly announced – the previous attempt to switch during Orthodox Christmas in January 2023. Fell, after both parties failed to agree on the proposal.
